Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development: The Role of Youth

Still bubbling in the spirit of tourism, 7 December the world celebrates International Civil Aviation Day to acknowledge the flight industry’s influence on modern life. It’s incredible to think that in less than 24 hours you can transport your body to pretty much anywhere in the world. Flying has made the world a much smaller place and had a huge impact on our lives. Today we celebrate the impact of flying and are thankful that it has opened so many doors for all of us.

The day was established by the United Nations in order to promote the importance of international civil aviation. The anniversary this year will be remembered as a pivotal point in the history of the global civil aviation sector, given that the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an unprecedented loss of jobs and revenue, and of the air connectivity that underpins sustainable development and many humanitarian efforts worldwide. The pandemic has also slowed down the progress of young people and raised a lot of unease both mentally and financially.

The theme for the International Civil Aviation Day till 2023 is Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development. As KURA, we are always concerned about the youth. With young people being the air hosts and hostesses, the airport attendants, the clears, some pilots and a lot more, it is key to firstly appreciate the roles being played by the youth in the aviation industry. The efforts and work by young people makes touring places more energetic and spreads good vibes.

As we build towards ‘advancing innovation’ for global aviation development, it is vital to include young people in this process. With the 24 recent graduates from the Tourism Inc 6th cohort, this crop of young people is an example of numerous ideas that can further innovations to strengthen the tourism industry coming from young people.
