In Rwanda, and across the world, young girls are beginning to realize their power. In this Women’s Month, as we celebrate the achievements and progress of women everywhere, it is important to remind every young girl that you are not just a girl, you are a force capable of achieving anything you set your heart and mind to.
Historically, girls have been told to stay within the boundaries set by society. There have always been expectations about what girls can and cannot do, based on outdated stereotypes and limited perceptions. Many of these restrictions have tried to convince girls that their dreams should be small, that their ambitions are not as important, and that they can’t reach the same heights as their male counterparts. But these outdated notions do not reflect reality, and they certainly do not define who you are.
Being a girl does not make you any less human. You are just as capable, intelligent, and powerful as anyone else. Your potential is limitless, and the only thing standing between you and your dreams is your belief in yourself and your dedication to making those dreams come true.
Throughout Rwanda, young girls are proving that gender does not determine success. From excelling in school to becoming young entrepreneurs, from athletes who represent the country on international stages to activists advocating for social change, Rwandan girls are breaking barriers and showing the world what they can achieve.
But the journey to success is never without challenges. Every path has its obstacles. There will be times when it feels like the world is telling you that your dreams are too big, too impossible. There will be people who tell you that you can’t do something simply because you are a girl. These voices may come from outside, but the loudest voice you’ll hear is your own. Don’t listen to the negativity. Instead, listen to your inner voice that tells you to push harder, work smarter, and keep going.
Every successful woman you admire has faced rejection, doubt, and failure at some point. The difference is that they did not let those challenges stop them. They learned from their mistakes, they kept moving forward, and they never gave up. You have the same ability within you. The path may be tough, but it is not impossible.
Look around you. The future of Rwanda is in the hands of young girls like you. You have the ability to create change in your community, to inspire those around you, and to make your dreams a reality. Whether it’s through education, sports, arts, business, or any other field, you have the power to contribute in ways that will leave a lasting impact on your country and the world.
This Women’s Month is a reminder that you are more than the limitations people try to place on you. You are capable of greatness, and it’s up to you to prove it. No one can define what you can achieve except for yourself. You are not “just a girl.” You are a leader, a change-maker, and a future trailblazer.
So, to every young girl in Rwanda, whether you are dreaming of becoming a doctor, a teacher, an athlete, an entrepreneur, or anything else, know this: You are not just a girl, you are a world-changer in the making. Keep pushing, keep working, and never let anyone tell you that your dreams are too big.
Believe in yourself, because the world will believe in you when you do.
