‘Heroes Investment Company,’ located in Rubavu City near ‘Marine Station,’ stands out for exclusively employing young people in its daily operations, with many of its activities having a positive impact on the youth.
Its founding idea stemmed from the goal of promoting youth development by offering services that contribute to their well-being, such as gyms, sauna facilities, massage areas, and a coffee shop, among other things.
Of the company’s employees, around 75% are young women, while the remaining staff members are also young. This idea originated during the COVID-19 pandemic after noticing a large number of young people seeking employment opportunities.
This led to a desire to employ youth, as they are often the most affected by unemployment, despite being a group that can be highly productive when well-guided.
“Employing youth is invaluable,” emphasized Jean Claude Rurangwa, Head of Economics at Heroes Investment Company.
He mentioned that the oldest employee in the company is around 27 years old, while the youngest is 20.
Rurangwa highlighted that one of the company’s greatest satisfactions is witnessing the increasing productivity of their employees across all departments.
He elaborated that their initial focus on sports was a strategic choice since it’s popular among young people, aiming to bring them closer to what they enjoy, thereby quickly attracting their peers, while also ensuring their well-being.
This strong performance has led to the company’s steady growth, allowing them to expand their workforce to the current total of 37 employees.
One of Heroes Investment Company’s achievements is attracting significant clients. For instance, their coffee shop has earned a strong reputation and is now invited to supply coffee at major events.
These successes have come from perseverance and hard work, as they faced numerous challenges along the way. Rurangwa pointed out that one of their biggest challenges was sometimes recruiting employees with limited experience, which required time and effort for training.
His advice to people hesitant about investing is to be courageous and take the first step since every journey begins with an initial move.
“Fear of investing itself is a problem. Investing isn’t the issue; it’s the fear of investing that’s the real challenge,” he said.
He urged young people to make the most of the resources they have, regardless of their background or where they come from, be it rural or urban areas, even though many believe success is only possible in cities like Kigali.
Rurangwa added, “The reason we chose to operate in Rubavu, even though many prefer cities where they think there are more clients, is that we found our opportunities here in the provinces where development is needed and where our services are appreciated.”
He affirmed that they aim to continue expanding their operations to reach and impact even more youth.
