“The journey does not inform the traveler!”: Prince Kiz on being a music producer

“The journey does not inform the traveler!” This timeless phrase echoes deeply in the life of Prince Moïse, better known as Prince Kiiz in the music industry, who never imagined his passion for music would propel him to fame. Today, he stands tall as one of Rwanda’s most prominent music producers, but the road wasn’t always smooth.

A graduate of the Nyundo School of Music in Rubavu District, Kiiz embarked on his music production career in late 2021, channeling the knowledge he acquired into a lifelong dream. Music had been his passion since childhood. As a boy, he not only aspired to produce music but also wanted to master instruments like the guitar and piano, which he played in his local church.

Fast forward to today, Prince Kiiz is a household name in Rwanda’s music scene, producing hit songs such as Funga Maco by Bruce Melodie, My Type, Amanota, Confirm by Danny Nanone, and many more. His work has not only gained popularity within Rwanda but has also caught the attention of fans beyond its borders, solidifying his position as a leading music producer.

Despite the fame and recognition, the road has been paved with challenges. Kiiz admits that there were moments when he wanted to quit. “The biggest challenge that made me feel like giving up was when things didn’t go as I planned,” he shares. “Sometimes, I lacked the necessary resources, and the process felt overwhelming.”

Yet, his love for music and the support of his fans kept him going. “Since I started working, music has brought me many achievements,” Kiiz explains. “I can now afford my needs, live independently, and I’ve even built my own studio.”

Driven by his desire to elevate Rwandan music, Kiiz is passionate about helping the next generation of musicians, especially the youth. He sees music not as a mere hobby, but as a powerful force capable of providing livelihoods and transforming lives. “Undermining music is a serious mistake. It’s an industry that sustains many people, both in Rwanda and abroad, just as it has for me.”

Prince Kiiz has a message for the youth: dream big, embrace challenges, and pursue entrepreneurship. “It’s tough at first,” he advises, “but over time, it’s the best decision you can make. Working for others may bring stability, but entrepreneurship brings growth and fulfillment.”

With his eyes set on expanding his influence in the music industry, Kiiz remains a beacon of hope for aspiring musicians. His journey is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and the belief that no dream is too big to achieve.

“The future of Rwandan music is bright,” he says confidently, and with talents like Prince Kiiz leading the charge, that future is indeed promising.
