Every morning for over a month, I’ve been chugging down this radiant concoction of turmeric, ginger, lemon, and honey, and boy, has it been a game-changer! Think of it as my zesty wakeup call – my body’s equivalent of a smartphone alarm, but without the annoying ringtone.
But first, let me hit rewind.
Why did I even start this? Well, I stumbled upon this combo on some wellness guru’s Instagram (yes, another one of those “miracle morning routines”). But, unlike the questionable DIY face masks or the odd-looking yoga poses, this one actually had some, let’s say, “scientific oomph” behind it.
Let’s talk shop for a moment.
Turmeric is Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, it’s like the cool kid everyone wants to hang with. They say it’s good for the skin and can help reduce inflammation. Given my now-beaming complexion, I’d say that’s a check!
Ginger is the feisty friend with all the sass. This root has been an age-old remedy for a myriad of health concerns. Nausea? Check. Digestion issues? Check. Want to add a spicy kick to your drink? Double-check.
Lemon is the zesty cheerleader of the bunch. Packed with Vitamin C, it not only promises clearer skin but also gives a much-needed immune boost. Goodbye sneezes, hello sunshines!
Honey is nature’s liquid gold. It’s not just sweet; it’s a natural antioxidant. So, while I’m relishing the sweet swirl, my body is singing hallelujah for the healing properties.
My experience
Now, back to my month-long adventure. Apart from the fact that my skin seems to have found its long-lost glow, the real shocker was the near-disappearance of my dreaded monthly fiend – menstrual cramps. Those villainous cramps that used to have me curled up like a pretzel, now seem to have lost their sting.
Apart from that I feel energized, I feel like my body is getting a reboot or something. I get a surge of energy without really needing any coffee. My energy level has never been this high.
Of course, everyone’s body is. What works wonders for me might just be another try-hard remedy for someone else. Give it a go for a week or two. Your body might just send you a silent thumbs-up!
If you feel good and enjoy the taste of ginger, and you don’t have any health concerns and aren’t on any medications, then you can enjoy and use ginger shots daily.
Ginger shots are best when taken once a day, first thing in the morning, and on an empty stomach. It is strongly recommended that they be consumed in limited quantities, because they may cause heartburn and stomach acidity.
To make a basic ginger shot, start by washing and roughly chopping a 5cm piece of fresh ginger root. You don’t need to peel it if it’s organic, but if not, it’s a good idea to do so. Place the chopped ginger into a blender or juicer or you can do it by hand.
If using a blender, add a small amount of water to help in the blending process. Blend until smooth, and then strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cloth to extract the juice. For added flavor and benefits, you can mix in a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, a dash of black pepper, or a spoonful of raw honey. Drink immediately for the best potency and freshness.
Am I now a turmeric-ginger-lemon-honey evangelist? Absolutely. Do I know all the deep-rooted scientific reasons why? Nope. But I know my body’s digging this vibrant morning ritual so maybe you can try it and tell me.
