This is what every entrepreneur should do in 2025

Whether you are running a tech startup in Kigali or a small agricultural business in Rubavu, the most successful entrepreneurs in 2025 will be those who are not just riding the wave of innovation but creating it.

As we step into 2025, the landscape of business is changing faster than ever. Entrepreneurs in Rwanda have more opportunities than ever before, but the key to thriving in this fast-paced environment lies in one crucial word: adaptability.

  1. Embrace digital transformation

The digital economy is no longer a luxury; it’s a necessity. Rwanda is rapidly embracing digital solutions, and the government has made significant strides in establishing itself as a regional tech hub. In 2023, Rwanda’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector contributed nearly 10% of the country’s GDP. In 2025, it is projected to contribute even more as the government continues to invest in ICT infrastructure and digital literacy.

What does this mean for entrepreneurs? Simply put, digital tools are now fundamental to reaching your customers and running your business efficiently. Whether you’re in retail, education, or agriculture, there is a tool or platform that can streamline your processes, improve your customer service, and even enhance your marketing strategies.

Kigali-based entrepreneur, Jules Uwera, the owner of a small applience company, says, “The market is going digital, and so should every business. When I started, I used to rely on manual transactions. Now, most of my customers pay online, and I’ve increased my revenue by 30% in the last year alone.”

In 2025, if you’re not online, you’re likely missing out on a huge chunk of the market.

  1. Adapt to sustainable practices

As climate change and environmental degradation continue to be global issues, sustainability will become increasingly important in 2025. Rwandan consumers are becoming more eco-conscious, and the Rwandan government is also pushing for greener solutions, with policies like the Green Growth and Climate Resilience Strategy which seeks to build a low-carbon economy.

Consider this: The environmental awareness in Rwanda has started affecting marketing of products based upon their eco-friendliness. In general, Rwandan consumers are likely to buy environmentally responsible products and packaging. By 2025, it is expected that consumers will increasingly demand responsible practices from businesses.

Aline Nyiransengimana, co-founder of a Kigali-based eco-friendly fashion brand, shared her experience: “People want products that reflect their values. We started our business with recycled materials, and today, we have a loyal customer base. It’s not just about the clothes; it’s about the message.”

Entrepreneurs in Rwanda can no longer afford to ignore sustainability—whether it’s using eco-friendly materials, implementing waste reduction practices, or offering services that promote environmental preservation.

  1. Focus on local solutions for local challenges

Rwanda is a country with immense untapped potential, but that potential lies in addressing local needs with innovative solutions. In 2025, businesses that provide products and services that solve the unique challenges of the Rwandan people will stand out. From affordable housing to access to healthcare in remote areas, entrepreneurs who tailor their businesses to address these needs will lead the market.

A great example is Anitha Umutoniwase, founder of, Eco Green Solutions Limited, an enterprise Born out of a desire to combat environmental degradation and address pressing social issues.

“We noticed the struggles faced by women and children who had to spend hours in forests searching for firewood. This exposure led to incidents of rape and caused children to miss school, all for the sake of gathering fuel for cooking. We realized that we could bring a solution to this,” she explained in one interview.

In 2025, successful entrepreneurs will be those who understand the specific pain points of Rwandan communities and work to solve them with locally relevant solutions.

  1. Invest in skills development

The entrepreneurial landscape in Rwanda is evolving, and the most successful business owners will be those who invest in their own development and in the development of their teams. The government’s focus on improving education and vocational training is creating a highly skilled workforce, but it’s up to entrepreneurs to harness this talent effectively.

In 2025, skills development will be critical to staying competitive. This means not just keeping up with market trends but investing in your own personal growth, as well as offering training opportunities to your employees. Rwandan youth are eager to learn and build careers that contribute to the country’s economic growth.

Claudine Nyiramahoro, a Data Analyst, says, “When I first started my business, I didn’t know much about coding or programming. But I took online courses, and now I can lead my team with confidence. If you’re not learning, you’re falling behind.”

Investing in education and training will not only help improve your business operations but will also contribute to the overall growth of Rwanda’s knowledge-based economy.
