Promote your business in this holiday season by doing this

The holiday season is not just a time for festive cheer—it’s a golden opportunity for businesses to boost sales, strengthen customer relationships, and end the year on a high note.

Taking advantage of this season can make a significant difference for your business. Let’s explore some practical strategies to ensure your brand stands out.

Start advertising early

Social media is the ultimate game-changer for businesses in Rwanda, with over 1.7 million Rwandans actively using platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This is your chance to create engaging holiday-themed content. Use eye-catching visuals, promotional videos, and interactive campaigns to connect with your audience.

“I started my candle-making business two years ago, and Instagram is where most of my customers discover me,” says Vanessa Mugwaneza, a 26-year-old entrepreneur based in Kigali. “Last Christmas, I ran a ‘12 Days of Christmas’ campaign with discounts, and my sales doubled!”

Collaborate with other local businesses

Collaboration is key. Partner with complementary businesses to create unique holiday packages. For instance, a bakery can team up with a flower shop to offer “cake-and-bouquet” combos. By cross-promoting, you’ll attract each other’s customers and gain visibility.

Jean-Paul Ndayisaba, a co-founder of a handmade jewelry brand, adds, “During Umuganura, we worked with a local basket weaver to offer gift sets. It brought us so much attention and orders, especially from tourists.”

Offer holiday discounts and promotions

Rwandans love a good deal! Offering flash sales, bundle deals, or “buy one, get one free” promotions can help you attract both new and returning customers.

Make it fun and exclusive. Create a sense of urgency by limiting offers to specific days or times. “I once posted a three-hour flash sale on WhatsApp for my skincare products,” shares Liliane Uwase, a 24-year-old entrepreneur. “It sold out faster than I expected!”

Create a memorable customer experience

The holidays are not just about selling; they’re about creating connections. Decorate your store or stall with festive touches, play soft Christmas music, or offer small tokens of appreciation like free gift wrapping.

For online businesses, ensure your ordering process is smooth, and don’t underestimate the power of a heartfelt thank-you note. “Last year, I gave each customer a free little book and pen as christmas gifts along with with their purchase,” says Eric Habineza, a 29-year-old coffee vendor. “It was a small gesture, but people appreciated it and came back.”

Promoting your business during the holiday season in Rwanda doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With the right mix of creativity, collaboration, and a deep understanding of your audience, you can turn this festive period into a time of growth and opportunity.

As Vanessa Mugwaneza puts it, “Holidays are the time to remind your customers why they should choose you—whether it’s your unique story, excellent customer service, or the joy you bring through your products.”
