In a rapidly evolving world where change is the only constant, preparing for the future has become a priority for young women seeking success. At the University of Rwanda, two remarkable individuals, Mutimucyeye Izere Liliane, and Berisimbi Consolée, are setting examples of resilience, determination, and the pursuit of personal growth.
Their journeys are not only inspiring but also offer invaluable insights into the challenges faced by young girls as they navigate university life, prepare for the future, and find their voices.
Mutimucyeye Izere Liliane, a student studying Nutrition and Dietetics, emphasizes the significance of communication and computer skills. According to her, communication skills play a pivotal role in expressing one’s ideas and thoughts effectively.
She believes that “communication skills are a part of the soft skills” required to thrive in the modern world. Additionally, she encourages young women to be proactive and emphasizes the importance of personal branding. By actively promoting themselves, they can unlock numerous opportunities, establish vital connections, and expand their networks.
Berisimbi Consolée, a student studying Law, draws inspiration from her desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Witnessing instances of abuse within her community motivated her to take action. She says, “It was bad for me not to help them so I did it all so that I can at least help them or play some role in solving their problems.”
Her experiences have taught her the significance of standing up for oneself and fighting personal battles. She believes that university life has prepared her to become an advocate for justice and change. Through her involvement in a legal clinic, she has already started helping people in need by providing legal advice and assistance.
Both Mutimucyeye and Berisimbi recognize the importance of developing soft skills that complement their academic pursuits. Mutimucyeye highlights the critical role of communication skills, as they facilitated her search for a professional internship. She believes that effective communication opens doors to various opportunities and helps build connections.
She emphasizes the value of writing skills and computer application skills, which she considers essential for success in today’s digital age.
In her pursuit of empowerment, Mutimucyeye aspires to be a job creator rather than a job seeker. She believes that being in control of one’s destiny allows for self-sufficiency and the ability to positively impact others. She can not only help herself but also contribute to the betterment of her community.
Berisimbi’s message to young people resonates with the spirit of self-reliance and resilience. She encourages her peers to fight for themselves and stand up for their rights. She emphasizes that help cannot always be guaranteed or freely given, and young women must learn to take charge of their own lives.
Through their experiences, they remind us of the importance of prioritizing communication skills, being proactive in personal branding, and acquiring essential soft skills. They also inspire us to use education as a tool to help others and become agents of change in our communities.
