Norbert Regero, known as ‘Digidigi’, hailing from Nyarugenge District, became famous as a talented actor in Rwandan cinema after quickly making a name for himself through radio dramas aired on stations like Contact FM.
He is one of the actors who constantly brings new and exciting elements to his craft, ensuring that viewers never get bored. Many people loved his acting in the film ‘Papa Sava’, and he has since appeared in other productions such as those from Zacu TV and ‘Seburikoko’.
This didn’t start recently! Digidigi’s passion for acting began long ago in secondary school, starting in a humble way by participating in radio dramas.
He first joined drama clubs, ‘Scouts’, and even acted in advertisements broadcast on Radio Contact FM.
His dreams became a reality when Niyitegeka Gratien (‘Seburikoko’) invited Digidigi to be part of his film ‘Papa Sava’, impressed by his skills and also asking him to be in the visuals.
The vocal expertise he developed later continued in films and visual media that gained wide popularity.
Entering the world of film, Digidigi eventually combined it with writing, not just acting in dramas.
Some of the plays he has written include ‘Umusare’, for Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), which addressed human trafficking and exploitation.
After writing many other works that brought him recognition, he is now working on one called ‘Umuzi’ for Happy Family Organization Rwanda, supported by UNESCO.
Balancing these various professions wasn’t easy due to the challenges he faced, and one major obstacle became quite burdensome. The greatest challenge was entering this field without enough knowledge, but thanks to his habit of reading books and information relevant to his profession, he was able to learn a great deal.
In an interview with KURA, he mentioned that cinema has brought him many opportunities, including owning a jewelry shop [Atelier de Bijouterie], which he founded with his future retirement in mind.
He stated, “Starting the jewelry workshop involved a lot of things. I was afraid of growing old, and I knew a time would come when I might have to leave cinema if necessary. I also realized that saving money from cinema alone wouldn’t be enough, so I needed something else to supplement it.”
He added, “We create, repair, and restore damaged items like rings, earrings, and more. If they become too big or small, we fix them without damaging them, using the appropriate machines.”
Although he acknowledges that he has achieved a lot, he says there are still dreams he has not yet fulfilled.
His dreams include building a nursery school for young children, even if it’s just one classroom where five or ten kids can learn and gain knowledge from Digidigi.
This young man, who has taken steps to become self-employed in various ventures, urged the youth to be courageous.
He said, “They should understand that no one else will benefit from the knowledge they have. They should also have the ambition to work for themselves because working for others requires constant dependence.”
He explained that working for others does not satisfy personal aspirations, whereas self-employment provides the time to manage your own affairs, rest when needed, and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
This comedian and entrepreneur continues to express his gratitude to everyone who appreciated his talent and helped build his reputation in his various fields.
He said he thanks his fans who support his work, those who offer him ideas, and others who enjoy giving him advice.
